2016 Australian Gymnastics Championships
The WA State Team attended the 2016 Australian Championships at Melbourne’s Hisense Arena from 23rd May – 4th June. We had High Flyers’ gymnasts and coaches in the MAG and TRP teams this year and 2 judges. All of them did an awesome job bringing some great results back to WA:
MAG Level 7 Under Results:
Level 7 Under team (Ludi, Matthew, Sam and Oliver) came 3rd.
Ludi – 1st Vault
Matthew – 3rd Floor
Here is Elliot’s recap for the Trampoline Team:
“From Monday 30th May to Sunday 5th June, 31 Athletes, 3 Coaches and 1 Judge from High Flyers attended the 2016 Australian Gymnastics Championships as part of the WA Trampoline Sports Team. This was the largest number of High Flyers athletes to make a State Team in our clubs history!
All athletes competed fantastically over the week in the 4 disciplines involved in our sport:
– Individual Trampoline (TRP)
– Double Mini Trampoline (DMT)
– Synchronised Trampoline (SYNC)
– Tumbling (TMB)
From our 31 Athletes we achieved 31 finals (spread over 22 athletes), which resulted in 1 Bronze, 9 Silver and 2 Gold medals (spread over 15 athletes, team medals included).
One of the most exciting results for High Flyers and WA was that we made 3 International Team Finals (Women’s Trampoline, Men’s DMT and Women’s DMT). In all 3 team finals the WA teams finished in Silver Medal position, each time just behind New South Wales. This is a fantastic result that well and truly concretes WA as one of the top states in the country for our sport!
A special congratulations must also go to the three National Champions from High Flyers; Meg Langridge and Alannah Boseley (Under 11 Female Syncro) and Roman Kirby (Under 15 Male Tumbling).
We want to thank all of the athletes for such a great effort at this years’ event and hope that they are inspired and motivated to train hard and return to next years national championships! Below is a list of all medal winners:
